  • Created in Marseilles in 1966 by André Malraux, the ‘Département des recherches archéologiques subaquatiques et sous-marines’ (Drassm) is a national institution based in Marseilles, under the auspices of the heritage body of the Ministry of Culture and Communication. The service is able to undertake archaeological research requiring diving and has the vocation of managing all underwater heritage in both inland waters and maritime locations.

    The Drassm has a 36 m 300t archaeological research vessel, the André Malraux, named for the founder of the service.
